Ellwood City is gearing up for its 37th Annual Ellwood City Arts, Crafts and Food Festival starting on June 29 and running till July 1. There will be no shortage of fun with continuous all-day entertainment, vendors and crafts. Young’s Custard Stand Raises Awareness and Money for ALS

Carli Young’s mother was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis [ALS],  better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease in February of 2017. It’s a progressive neuro-degenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS has no cure and very few drugs to help slow the progression. “Diagnosis day was the day I lost my mother. It was a long time coming. LGNDS a new Barbershop on Lawrence Avenue had their soft opening Friday. Carla Bunney and Shawn Johnson Jr. are the co-owners and partners of the new local barbershop. Ellwood City School District On New Pennsylvania Required Prevention Program

In April, Ellwood City School’s attended the Blueprints Conference at Penn State University. The conference presented a slideshow focusing on new required opioid education for Pennsylvania students grades 6-12 on prevention, risk, protective factors and effective prevention of the opioid epidemic. Ellwood City received a 5-year grant for Life Skills Training in 2013. The grant allowed the school to further implement a prevention program to its students. LST is a Blueprints program that is part of the grant ECASD received from the University of Colorado, Center for the Prevention on Violence. Wampum Trail Town Festival

The Wampum Trail Town Festival will be held rain or shine from 11:00 am  to 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 23, at the Wampum Train Station, 303 Main Street, Wampum, PA 16157.  Vendors will be able to begin setting up at 9:30 am and are expected to remain set up until 3:00 pm. People can celebrate local trails, on land and water, at the festival. Ellwood City Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser

Ellwood City Volunteer Fire Department is holding a fundraiser for Capt. Frank Condell and family. In March 2018 the ECFD Capt. Frank Condell suffered a significant brain injury. Fire Chief Rick Myers said, “the injury was a natural occurrence and did not occur at the fire station.” According to the department’s statement, Condell was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove a large blood clot. Frank suffered serious bleeding in his brain and the surgery relieved the pressure and stopped the bleeding. Frank has been making steady improvements. Although, Frank is home he…

Ellwood City Hospital Gets a Face Lift, New Generation of Doctors to Come

Ellwood City Medical Center has big changes on the horizon with new staff, new construction, new hospital units and technology being implemented. The hospital will become a medical sanctuary for area residents. When the hospital switched to new ownership in 2017 there were necessary layoffs made to promote hospital growth. Still remaining are many familiar veteran nurses and doctors.
