Holy Redeemer Bazaar a Golden History a Bright Future

Holy Redeemer Parish is celebrating 50 Golden Bazaar years starting Wednesday, July 27 and continuing through Saturday July 30.

The bazaar’s rich and successful history was made possible by the work ethic of its parishioners and their dedication to serving their parish family and community but every successful initiative has a beginning and must be blessed with excellent leadership.

In 1966, the parish’s Special Activities Group (SAG) provided the guidance needed, and were the driving force behind the annual bazaar as we know it today. Pastor of Purification Blessed Virgin Mary Parish (now Holy Redeemer Parish), Father Dominic DeBlasio, gave his blessing to start the bazaar. It was held for the first time in August of 1966.

Members of the SAG and other parishioners (just to name a few), who provided the leadership, included Andrew D’Andrea, Angelo Lordi, Patsy Zingaro, Frank Barsotti, John DeCaro Sr. Ted Cicozzi, Mike DeLoia, Joseph Ferrese and John Kline.

Each annual bazaar gets bigger and better. There is something for every age group this year. From nightly entertainment, to a full menu of food, led by our famous “pepperoni puffs,” to indoor nightly bingo, to a kid’s corner featuring a variety of rides and games, and to lunch being served Friday, July 29 at the outside kitchen from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The highlight of the bazaar is the “Summer Cash Giveaway” featuring raffles totaling $15,000.00.

Cash raffles will be given away each night of the bazaar; on Wednesday and Thursday night, July 27 and July 28, three $500.00 cash awards per night will be given away and Friday night four $500.00 cash awards. On Saturday night, July 30 at 10 p.m. the marquee prize will be two $5,000.00 cash awards.

“We own an incalculable debt of gratitude to all those that started the annual bazaar so many years ago,” said John Biondi, the bazaar’s marketing coordinator. “Each of the succeeding pastors that followed Father DeBlasio endorsed, and gave their blessing to continue the annual bazaar. The parish’s past pastors, the bazaar’s original and creative leaders, former and current chairpersons and volunteers, have built and continue to build a solid foundation for the parish bazaar’s enduring future.”
