Four Wolverines Advance to WPIAL Individual Championships

The Ellwood City boys golf team continues to build on an impressive season, and four Wolverines have earned the opportunity to compete for a WPIAL Individual Championship at Oakmont CC.

Anderson Weisz, Cameron Keller, Adam Jeffcoat and Gino Biondi successfully navigated Tuesday’s WPIAL Individual Championship qualifying round at South Hills Country Club, earning their spots in the championship round at Oakmont Country Club.

The qualifying field featured the top 69 golfers from the WPIAL Class 2A section, making the accomplishment even more impressive for the four Ellwood City golfers. Battling through a talented and competitive field, Weisz, Keller, Jeffcoat and Biondi each delivered strong performances when it mattered most.

Weisz cashed in on two birdies on the back nine at South Hills and finished with the second lowest score among sophomores on the course.

Their performances give Ellwood City four representatives in the WPIAL Individual Championship, keeping the Wolverines’ strong season moving forward.

The WPIAL Individual Championship final round will be held Tuesday, October 6, at Oakmont Country Club. The top 18 golfers from the championship will earn the opportunity to advance to the PIAA State Championships.

For Ellwood City, the individual championship is only part of what promises to be an exciting week.

Following the individual championship, Biondi, Jeffcoat, Weisz and Keller will be joined by teammates Luca Carsele and Dante Venezie as the Wolverines compete in the WPIAL Team Semifinals on October 8.

The Wolverines finished the season 14-1 and co-section champions for the 3rd season in a row.

  • T19 – Cameron Keller 80 (42-38, +9)
  • T23 – Adam Jeffcoat 81 (37-44, +10)
  • T26 – Gino Biondi 82 (40-42, +11)

Riverside junior Tyler Holsinger also qualified with a round of 79 (+8) on Tuesday to continue on to Oakmont CC.
