Freshman Jordan Keller Qualifies, Earns Spot In WPIAL Golf Semifinals

Ellwood City Freshman Jordan Keller fired a round of 78 on Monday at Green Meadows Golf Course to qualify and advance to the WPIAL Class 2A Semifinals. Keller finished 5th overall in the Section V qualifier event, easily besting a target score of 86 to advance. Other Wolverine golfers posting scores from Monday include Colten Crizer (89), Mitch Covert (91), Carson Capello (97), Grady Smith (99), and Nathan Williams (100). SPORTS: Ellwood City Cross Country and Golf Teams Continue Winning Streaks

The Ellwood City Wolverines Co-Ed Cross Country Team and Co-Ed Golf teams each collected victories last week to continue their respective winning streaks. Golf has now won four straight matches after losing four of their previous five matches. The Wolverines last week defeated the Mohawk Warriors in by far the biggest upset on the year by Ellwood City with a score of 214-218. The victory came eight days after the Wolverines were victorious against the Union Scotties 221-232 to break the losing ways. Ellwood City Co-Ed Golf Team is enjoying some early season success, collecting victories in its first two matches of the season. The Wolverines opened up the season with a home victory over Union on Friday (223-259) and collected another victory at home on Tuesday, defeating New Castle (214-256). On Friday, three Ellwood golfers – Jordan Keller, Nathan Williams, and Mitch Covert – posted rounds of 44 to pace the host Wolverines. A second place finish by Anthony Spadafore and strong performance by Colton Crizer led Ellwood City to its cross country victory on Tuesday at Laurel. Ellwood City defeated host Laurel, (17-44), Union (15-50), and Freedom (15-50) at the meet. The Ellwood City boys golf team is off to a fast start this year, improving their season record to an impressive 4-0 after its 213-219 victory on the road Tuesday afternoon over cross town rival Riverside. Senior Milo Sesti continued his torrid pace, posting an 3-under round of 33 on Tuesday. Sesti had also fired two sub-40 rounds last week to power the Wolverines to victories over Freedom and Mohawk. Milo Sesti led the Ellwood City boys golf team to victory on Tuesday while the Ellwood City girls volleyball team and the Ellwood City co-ed cross country team were each victorious and both remain unbeaten.
