Wolverines Walk Off Burrell; Panthers Shutout South Allegheny

Jacob Biskup connected on a walkoff RBI single Tuesday evening to cap a Wolverine 5-4 comeback victory over Burrell.

In a wild final inning that featured six combined runs by the teams, Ellwood City earned the quarterfinal victory with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

After trailing 1-0 entering the sixth inning, the #3 seeded Wolverines got on the board with a Biskup RBI double and a Nate Kennedy sacrifice fly put Ellwood City ahead 2-1 entering the final frame.

Back to back doubles by Burrell in the top of the seventh surged the #11 seeded Bucs ahead.

The Wolverines rallied a second time in its last at bats as Boker singled and walks to Matt Kelly and Gino Biondi loaded the bases with no outs.

Jordan Keller, who was a perfect 3-3 at the plate, walked to force in a run and Cameron Mills plated a run with a sacrifice fly before Biskup sent the Wolverines (17-3 Overall) to the semifinals with his walk off RBI single.

Aaron Lake started for Ellwood City and lasted six innings allowing one run, five hits while striking out seven batters before giving way to Nate Kennedy.

The Wolverines advance to the WPIAL Class 3A semifinals to find a familiar foe in rival Riverside.

RIVERSIDE 3 SOUTH ALLEGHENY 0

Matt Santillo provided the offensive punch and twirled a complete game shutout Tuesday to help Riverside advance to the WPIAL semifinals with a 3-0 victory over South Allegheny.

Santillo allowed only two hits and one walk in the victory for Riverside (12-7 Overall).

Riverside broke open the scoreless game in third inning when Santillo collected a bases clearing single.

Logan Young and Brock James added singles for Riverside who was limited to three hits by Gladiator starter Adam Jackowski. Jackowski went five innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on three hits, striking out 10 and walking three.

With the Panthers advancing, the cross-town rivals will next meet in the WPIAL Class 3A semifinals on Thursday, May 21st with a berth in the championship game on the line. Riverside enters the WPIAL semifinals for the fifth-straight season and are the defending Class 3A champs.
