The Riverside swimming team was well represented at the 2026 AA WPIAL Swimming/Diving Championships held at Trees Pool on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh this past weekend.
Four Panthers had successful showings highlighted by Peter Ruggeri and Nate Goff who each earned medals in their respective meets
Ruggeri placed 6th place in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 56.38 while Goff placed 7th place in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 57.48.
Josh Turner placed 9th (50.88) and Nick DePaoli placed 18th (51.83) in the 100 Yard Freestyle to round out notable individual performances.
The four man relay of Goff, Ruggeri, DePaoli, and Turner medaled and qualified for the PIAA Championships in both the 200 Yard and 400 Yard freestyle relay. The relay team finished 6th overall (1:32.13) in the 200 Yard and 10th overall (3:24.31) in the 400 Yard.
Mt. Pleasant finished 1st overall in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:30.38) and Northgate placed 1st overall in the 400 Yard with a time of 3:13.14.
The Panthers boys team finished 12th overall (84 points) in the WPIAL Championships in a field of 30 teams. Northgate finished top overall with 229 points.
The Panthers are seated 23rd in the 200 yard freestyle relay, and 29th in the 400 yard freestyle relay at the PIAA championship according head coach Raena Canter.
“We are excited to attend and swim well. Our goal is to compete well, place higher in the standings, and if possible make consolation finals at the championship meet,” says Canter. “We have a great group of young men who work hard and are capable of exceeding expectations moving into next week.”
The PIAA Swimming & Diving Championships will held March 11-14 at Kinney Natatorium on the campus of Bucknell University.
