Third-grade students at Riverside recently celebrated the completion of their first CKLA English Language Arts unit, Classic Tales, with a fun-filled Mad Hatter Day.
Throughout the Classic Tales unit, students read and explored several well-known works of literature, including The Wind in the Willows, Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp, and Alice in Wonderland. Students worked on important reading skills such as identifying characters, analyzing story elements and themes, learning new vocabulary, and strengthening their reading comprehension.
To celebrate all of their hard work and bring the final story of the unit to life, third graders participated in Mad Hatter Day. Students were invited to dress as characters from Alice in Wonderland or wear their own fun and creative Mad Hatter-inspired outfits. Throughout the day, students participated in special activities connected to Alice in Wonderland and the skills they had been learning during the unit. In the afternoon, students celebrated with a Mad Hatter Tea Party in their homerooms, complete with special treats and drinks. They also watched Alice in Wonderland and had the opportunity to take pictures in front of an Alice in Wonderland-themed backdrop and decorations in the hallway.
