Riverside Elementary students in grades K–4 participated in a PAWSing to Make the Best Choices Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) Assembly on Friday, September 18.
The Riverside High School Band helped kick off the celebration by playing as students entered the assembly and again as they exited. During the assembly, students learned how they can PAWS to make the best choices in different areas of the school, including the classroom, hallway, restroom, playground, and cafeteria.
Students are encouraged to demonstrate positive behaviors throughout the school day. When they PAWS to make good choices, they earn points that can be redeemed at the Riverside Elementary School Store for a variety of prizes and special experiences. Experiences include lunch with friends, lunch with Principal Dr. Sharek, lunch with Riverside’s therapy dog Leo, and serving as the assistant principal for a half day.
Students, teachers, paraprofessionals, guidance counselors, and behavior consultants from the Beaver County Intermediate Unit (BVIU) attended the assembly and helped support the launch of the school-wide initiative.
Riverside Elementary is beginning the two-year process to become a state-certified PBIS school. The school store is an important component of the PBIS program and provides students with opportunities to be recognized and rewarded for demonstrating positive behaviors.
Through PAWSing to Make the Best Choices, Riverside Elementary is working to create a positive, supportive school environment where students are encouraged to make good choices and be their best each day.
