The Ellwood City girls volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with a 3-2 victory over Shenango on Thursday evening as part of its senior night.
After falling behind 2-1, the playoff-bound Lady Wolverines dispatched the Wildcats with victories in the final two sets to secure the section victory.
The victory improved the Lady Wolverines record to 13-4 for the 2024 regular season. The team finished 9-3 in the WPIAL Class 2A Section 4, good for second place behind Neshannock. The Lancers defeated Ellwood City twice during the regular season.
Riverside issued the Wolverines their additional section loss earlier this year, earning a thrilling 3-2 victory in September.
Ellwood City will enter the playoffs on a five game winning streak and will await its playoff pairings that will be announced by Trib HSSN at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. The 2024 WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Girls’ Volleyball Championships will begin on Monday, October 21.
Last year, Ellwood City earned a preliminary round victory in the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs before losing to #5 seed Avonworth. Beaver defeated Freeport to earn the WPIAL Class 2A Championship last season.
