Rep. Kelly Honors Ellwood City Resident For Earning Congressional Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) recently recognized Eric Perkins, of Ellwood City, as a Congressional Award Silver Medal Recipient, during an October 1st meeting in Rep. Kelly’s Butler office.

The Congressional Award is a non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive award program for young Americans. The Congressional Award is open to ages between 14-24. The program encourages young Americans to set goals in important areas: expedition and exploration, physical fitness, personal development, and voluntary public service. Participants are awarded with a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Certificate, as well as Medals.

Perkins, 23, began working on the Congressional Award when he was 14 years old. He is a recent graduate of Geneva College. He quickly began focusing on his professional life, becoming a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and a PIAA soccer official.

“It is with great pride and admiration that I recognize your exceptional accomplishments, and I thank you for your service and dedication to our community,” Rep. Kelly said. “You are an inspiration to others, and I have every confidence that you will continue to achieve remarkable success in all that you do.”

“My focus for this award was serving those in my community through various ways, including volunteer income tax preparation and serving in soup kitchens. I served as a volunteer income tax preparer through the VITA program (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) at the Center for Community Resources in Butler, where we prepare income tax filings for people who make under $50k a year. Additionally, I helped to serve meals at New Beginnings Free Methodist Church on Center Ave in Butler,” Perkins said.

Perkins currently works for the ATF and lives with his wife in their newly purchased house.
