According to information made available by the district Monday morning, Lincoln High School and Hartman Intermediate School will be closed and operate on a FID (Flexible Instruction Day) on Monday, April 22, 2024 due to maintenance issues.
Perry Lower Intermediate and North Side Primary will operate as normal.
“The heating system for Lincoln and Hartman are linked an both currently operate on steam heat and Sunday afternoon the district identified that there is a leak in a steam line which forced steam to fill spaces above the ceilings and in the basement – which condensed into water – which damaged ceilings in Lincoln High School,” said Superintendent Wesley Shipley when reached for comment.
To attempt to fix the issue, all heat was turned off and time had to be given for the steam to stop escaping the pipe and for the damage to be fixed.
“This system is a major part of our construction at Lincoln and will be replaced with a hot water heating system during this project,” add Shipley. “However, this issue was not caused by construction. Rather, it is another incident where the age of the current mechanical systems has led to a catastrophic failure.”
The construction project will replace and upgrade all electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling systems throughout the entire building.
