The Wander Ellwood Committee is counting down the days to their first big Wander Ellwood night on June 1.
The event will be held from 5 to 8 and will feature music by Steel Mill Rising, vendors on the streets, and local businesses that will be open a little later than normal and offering specials. In addition open containers will be allowed on the streets during the event.
The Facebook page for Wander Ellwood urged the community, “If you already have plans break them and come join us!”
Brad Ovial, Ellwood City Borough councilman and president of Ellwood City Revitilization (ECR) said the event is sure to be memorable.
“This event is going to be great,” he said. “And it’s the first time that council, ERC, Ellwood City Community Enrichment (ECCE) and the Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce are working together.”
The Wander Ellwood event will continue on the first Wednesday of every month from June-October. The event will span Fifth Street from Crescent Avenue to Spring Avenue and Lawrence Avenue from Fourth Street to Eighth Street.
Jillian Court, Director of Ellwood City Community Enrichment (ECCE) said she looks forward to the event.
“My parents have talked about how all your shopping could be done in Ellwood when they were young,” she said. “They reminisce about all the businesses that used to be and all the people who walked up and down Lawrence Ave to pay their bills, eat at restaurants and go to the movies just to name a few.”
She believes the event will be a true launchpad for the borough.
“Wander Ellwood is going to bring life back to downtown Ellwood,” Court said. “I am excited to get a glimpse of what Ellwood looked like in the past and what the community has to look forward to in the future.”
Court said the collaboration between all the local community organizations has been phenominal and credits council for allowing this event.
“The support from the Borough of Ellwood City and Ellwood City Council is outstanding. They have been so helpful throughout the whole planning process to make this event successful.”
ECCE is sponsoring the entertainment for the first three Wander Ellwood events as part of the Summer Concert Series. Steel Mill Rising (June 1st), Morgan Gruber (July 6th), and The D-Tour Band (August 3rd) are performing at the Community Plaza from 5:30-7:30pm. Bagpiper Bryan Crable will be a “wandering piper” and walk around town on July 6th. ECR is sponsoring The Leftovers who are performing September 7th and the Chamber is sponsoring Chad Goldbach who is performing October 5th.
“ECCE is thrilled to be a part of the Wander Ellwood committee,” Court said.
Although, the committee isn’t accepting anymore vendors for this month, they are seeking vedndors for the future. There is a $50 fee for non-Ellwood City Borough businesses. More details regarding setting up as a vendor can be obtained by emailing wanderellwood@gmail.com.
