Ellwood City local boxer, Rosalindo Morales, took the win at a much-anticipated boxing match back in early February of this year.
Morales now has been boxing for 13 years, and just had one of the biggest boxing match-ups yet. He was 2-0 going against the 2-1 Cleveland native Jeremy Abram at Mountaineer Casino in a scheduled four-round bout. This match was two months in the process, the idea came up in late December. Morales, however, came out with a win.
“I was not surprised by the outcome of the fight because I won,” explained Morales. “That’s what I expected to do. Win!”
Morales said he didn’t have many days off leading up to the fight. If he wasn’t at home with his girlfriend Hannah and their 10-month-old baby Gabriella, he was training at the gym. He, however, didn’t add anything special to his normal training schedule, he said he just trained hard and when he walked into the ring, gave it his all.
While he has no future matches currently scheduled, he is hoping to hear back from a promoter in regards to possibly being able to fight a few more times this year.
“There’s still a lot of learning and training that needs to be done,” said Morales.
However, the boxer doesn’t want to take full credit for his win. He says there has been a lot of support from his trainers Jack Maine and Bob Boyle as well as his family, fans, and his sponsors.
“Overall I just want to thank everyone who helped me and supported me, “ said Morales. “I could have not done it without everyone in my corner!”
Morales says the immense amount of support he had received in the time leading up to his fight truly pushed him to train that much harder.
