The Ellwood City Area Historical Society, the Lincoln High School History Club and the Lincoln High School Drama Club are planning a “Historical Fashion Show.” In order for this to happen, they’ll need clean vintage articles of clothing donated, or at least borrowed for this event. Ideally, the clothes should be from 1890 up until 1950-1960.
The event came to be when the president of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society, Everett Bleakney, proposed to the board of director that they should reach out to Lincoln High School to try and get more people interested in Ellwood City’s history.
Thus the idea of a “Vintage Fashion Show”.
Originally, Bleakney had only met with the Lincoln High School Librarian, Heidi Feltrop. Bleakney says that they had talked about the History Center and perhaps maybe getting the Drama Club at the school involved by doing a joint venture with the center.
“This [event] would promote history, and have a function for the Drama Club,” said Bleakney.
Bleakney then said that Feltrop proceeded to call the high school’s History Club leader Lori Hudeck. Hudeck liked the idea and began to contact the rest of the club along with some History Re-en Actors who are employed at the school.
If this event happens, there will be a small fee for the public to pay, but the proceeds made will go to the two Lincoln High School Clubs involved. While none of this has been finalized, the target date would be scheduled for sometime in January.
The show itself will cover as many years as they can, from Ellwood City’s beginning in 1890 all the way through 1950-1960.
“I believe this could be a very good educational program for the high school students. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society awards two fifteen hundred scholarships each year, to a graduating senior, that is continuing into higher education,” said Bleakney. “Hopefully, this Fashion Show would be the kick start for the promotion of these awards.”
“I believe the youth should become more involved with the local history, and the roots of their families. Maybe, just maybe this would be the catalyst that would start the interest,” Bleakney concluded.
If you are interested in donating clothing, or at least lend some, please contact the Ellwood City Historical Society at 724-752-2021, or by email at ellwoodhistory@zoominternet.net.
Arrangements can be made to have the clothing dropped off at the History Center, located at 310 5th Street, Ellwood City, PA.
