Mr. Fred Silvestri, 94, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21st, 2026 at his residence.
Mr. Silvestri was born on March 10th, 1932 in Ellwood City to the later Oddone and Gulia (Mariotti) Silvestri. He had graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1950 and is a member of Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church. Fred enlisted with the United States Air Force on May 1st, 1951 and served until his honorable discharge on April 30th, 1955. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. Following his service with the Air Force, Fred worked for Honeywell, Babcock & Wilcox Steel Mill, and Philco. Fred is a member of the Sons of Italy and Hungarian Home, and he also enjoyed golfing.
He is survived by his wife Loretta (Barry) Silvestri whom he married on April 28th, 1956, daughters and sons-in-law MaryLynn & James Strieter, Diane & Carlos Martinez, and Patty & Jim DiMase, sons Greg Silvestri Sr. and Anthony Barry Silvestri, 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 14 nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Clara Riska, Dora Peccardo, and Lena Conforti, and brothers Aroldo Silvestri, Remo Silvestri, and Albert Silvestri.
Following Fred’s wishes there will not be a public service. The cremation arrangements are entrusted to the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.. Inurnment will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
The family would like to thank the staff of UPMC Family Hospice for the wonderful care that they gave to Fred.
