PHOTOS: High Five! Smiley, Wolverines Defeat Rival Riverside On Senior Night

Talk about a high five!

Senior Tyler Smiley went to the air and tossed five touchdown passes Friday Night as Ellwood City routed Riverside 48-14 on Senior Night.

The quarterback connected with four different receivers on touchdown strikes with wideout DaiLonn Currie being the recipient of two.

Ellwood City marched out early and collected four first half touchdowns to post a 26-0 halftime advantage.

A 6-yard touchdown from Smiley to Colton Gullo opened up the scoring in the first quarter before Currie hauled in his first touchdown reception (24-yard) and Kam Hockenberry caught a 19-yard touchdown from Smiley late in the second quarter.

Richard Cureton scored on an 8-yard run in the opening frame. Cureton finished with 92 yards on 20 carries to pace the Wolverines rush attack that finished with 233 yards on the ground as a team.

Ellwood City finished with 498 total net yards and 26 first downs in the victory that snapped a two-game losing streak.

The visiting Panthers were able to get on the board in the second half with a pair of rushing touchdowns from back Mason Holler. He finished the game with 119 yards rushing on 20 carries for Riverside.

Smiley connected on 27-yard and 35-yard touchdown strikes to Dom Dinucci and Currie in the third quarter and Anthony Barberio plunged in from 1-yard out in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring for the Wolverines.

Smiley finished 14-22 passing and 297 yards in the victory. He added 66 yards rushing.

Defensively for Ellwood City, Cameron Mills posted seven tackles and recovered a fumble. Gullo and Smiley each added seven tackles and a sack for Ellwood City. Dom Dinucci and Tyler Amicone each collected interceptions for the Wolverines who forced four Riverside turnovers and limited the Panthers to only 15:07 time of possession.

Tyler Richards posted a game-high 11 tackles for the Panthers.

The Wolverines improve to 4-4 (3-2 Class 2A-2) and will next travel to Union Area on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. kick. Riverside (4-4 Overall) falls even to Ellwood City in the conference with a 3-2 mark and will next host Beaver Falls on Friday.
