Wolverines Defense Stymies Shenango, EC Defeats Wildcats 21-0

The Ellwood City defense put up a resounding effort Friday night on the road Friday night, shutting out the Shenango Wildcats 21-0.

The Wolverines defense held the Wildcats to 47 yards of total offense and forced two turnovers in the victory.

Offensively, Tyler Smiley tossed two first half touchdowns, first a 2-yard toss to Anthony Barberio in the first quarter and then finding DaiLonn Currie on a 8-yard scoring strike in the second quarter.

Ellwood City led 14-0 at halftime.

Richard Cureton rounded out the scoring for the Wolverines as he punched in a 1-yard touchdown plunge early in the fourth quarter.

The Wolverines ground attack led the offensive charge as they ran up 196 yards rushing led by Cureton who finished with a game-high 74 yards on 15 carries. Guilian Frisk added 45 yards on 12 carries.

Barberio finished with 34 yards on the ground and added two catches.

Smiley finished 9-14 passing for 81 yards to go along with his two touchdown passes. He also collected 43 yards rushing.

Defensively, Barberio and Drake Davis each collected six tackles with Davis posting two tackles for loss. P.J. Dubois and Cameron Mills each collected a sack for the Wolverines defense. Dom Hogue collected an interception.

Ellwood City (1-1 Overall) will return home Friday night match-up agains Neshannock.
