Amber McQuistion was dominant in the circle as the hurler rang up 12 strikeouts in Ellwood City’s 6-0 victory over Hopewell on Thursday.
McQuistion gave up three hits and zero runs over seven innings while walking two.
The Wolverines scored four runs in a pivotal fifth inning on the way to victory as Rylee Prestopine smacked a three-run double that stretched the Wolverine lead to 5-0.
Ellwood City was first to get on the board in the first when an error scored one run.
Alexis Beck and Lena Lucarelli were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Ellwood City. Prestopine led Ellwood City with three runs batted in. Sara Schwarz walked twice for Ellwood City.
Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating five walks for the game.
Ellwood City (6-4 Overall, 3-1 Section 3-1A) play at home on Monday against Mohawk Area in their next game.
WOLVERINES KNOCK OFF LAUREL 10-3
Jacob Biskup collected three hits in five at bats from the leadoff position for Ellwood City as they defeated Laurel 10-3 on Thursday
Biskup doubled in the seventh inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the fourth inning.
Laurel opened the scoring in the second after Tyler Shearer doubled, scoring one run.
Ellwood City quickly responded and took 5-1 lead in the top of the third thanks to singles by Jordan Keller, Aaron Lake, and Maykel Cuevas.
Cameron Mills earned the win for Ellwood City. The starter surrendered five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out three and walking four. Jaxson McVicker took the loss for Laurel Spartans Baseball. The starting pitcher went three and one-third innings, surrendering eight runs (six earned) on eight hits, striking out one and walking three. Owen Andrews threw two innings of shutout ball for Ellwood City in relief. The reliever allowed one hit, striking out two and walking none.
Ellwood City collected 13 hits in the game. Lake drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Wolverines with four runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Keller joined Biskup in collecting three hits for the Wolverines.
Cuevas and Sam Landis each added two hits for Ellwood City. Jacob Biskup stole two bases.
Ellwood City (9-4 Overall, 4-2 Section 3-1A) open up a two-game series versus Beaver Falls at home on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
