Aaron Lake struck out 10 batters in a complete game gem to lead the Ellwood City Wolverines past Riverside 4-0 on Tuesday at Beaver Falls High School.
Lake surrendered just three hits and three walks in his performance that handed the Panthers their first loss of the season.
Ellwood City was the first to get on the board in the top of first inning when Will Nardone singled, scoring one run.
The Wolverines added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Cameron Mills walked, and Sam Landis singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Christian Lucarelli took the loss for Riverside. The righty went four and two-thirds innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out six and walking five. Hunter Garvin struck out all four batters in relief of Lucarelli.
Will Nardone drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Wolverines with two runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Lucarelli, Hunter Garvin, and John Bowser each collected one hit for the Panthers in defeat.
Ellwood City (5-2 Overall) will next host rival Riverside (4-1 Overall) Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at Sanders Field in Ewing Park. The Wolverines victory Tuesday also broke an 18-game losing streak against the Panthers.
