Charles Wallace Evans, 76

Charles Wallace Evans, 76, passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 after a brief battle with illness. He was born in Ellwood City Pennsylvania. Charles was a happy resident of Mercer, Pennsylvania were he lived with his loving wife, Kelley Evans. He leaves behind three daughters, Rachelle, Heather and Denise and son, Rory. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Glenda Evans; son, Wally Evans and daughter, Rebecca Evans. In keeping his wishes there are no services. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Arrangements are entrusted to John…

Brown Announces Area Career and Technical School Receives Grant

HARRISBURG – Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) today announced the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center in New Castle will receive an $85,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) for the purchase of new equipment aligned to training students in high-demand occupations. “Career and technical education can provide incredible opportunities for students to pursue good-paying jobs in industries critical to our economy,” said Brown. “This grant will help more individuals seize those opportunities and achieve a lifetime of success.” There are more than 80 career and technical centers in Pennsylvania that offer a combination of classes and hands-on-learning programs….

Joseph Roth is now the all-time leading scorer in Ellwood City boys basketball history. The senior knocked down a free throw midway through the second quarter that gave him 1,939 career points, breaking the career scoring record previously held by Dan Aloi. Roth finished with 18 points in the 73-45 rivalry victory over Riverside Friday night. Deblin E. Stoops, 50, of Koppel passed away on Thursday, February 8th, 2024 at Family Hospice in Lawrenceville. Deblin was born in Butler on September 4th, 1973 to Aaron Stoops of North Sewickley Twp. and the late Elizabeth (Parks) Rudy. Mrs. Katherine “Kathy” S. Carsele, 78, of Ellport passed away on Thursday, February 8th, 2024 at the Grove in Harmony. Mrs. Carsele was born in McKeesport to the late Bernard L. and Edna G. (Dombeck) Kuben on April 8th, 1945. She is a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1963 and the Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church. THEFT: On January 17th, at approximately 7:32 a.m., police investigated the report of theft in Perry Township. Police discovered that one or more unidentified people broke into unlocked vehicles, according to criminal complaint. No one has yet to be charged. ECASD Board of Directors Approve Changes to High School Curriculum; Face More Feedback from CEPP Group

Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors approved requested changes to the High School Curriculum during the February 8, 2024 regular meeting. The changes were requested by Lincoln High School Principals, Mike Garvin and John Sovich. Garvin spoke previously at the committee meeting saying that the changes would benefit the students and have been a long time coming. One of the big changes is the addition of a Communications requirement, which will help students communicate in today’s ever changing, technology fueled world.
