Mabel “Betty” Shafran

Mabel “Betty” Shafran, 70, of Ellwood City passed away February 8, 2024, at the Grove of New Castle. She was the daughter of the late Milo and Gloria (Cover) Derrow and was born March 2, 1953, in Ellwood City.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Stephen Shafran, her daughter; Emily Shafran of Monaca, her grandchildren; Leah Neville and her fiancé Bryce Sutter of Aliquippa, Anthony Prestopine of Monaca, her great grandson; Brody Sutter, her siblings; Georgia Fife of Chewton, Vallie George and her husband Chuck of Koppel, Milo Derrow and his wife Diane of South Carolina, brother-in law; Michael Shafran and his wife of Betty of North Carolina; sister-in-law; Loretta Shafran of Conway, brother-in-law; Richard Shafran of San Antonio, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was a 1971 graduate of Lincoln High School. She received her associate’s degree from Garfield business school and went on to work for Charles J. Loll in Beaver followed by Ken Herman from which she retired of 40 plus years of service. She met and married the love of her life Stephen Shafran on May 29, 1987. She loved working on puzzles, crossword puzzles, and she loved watching game shows and more than anything she was a fixture at her church and she loved her church family.
Betty and Stephen were long time members of First Church of Good in Ellwood City where Betty was a Sunday School teacher and served as church treasurer for over 30 years. She loved spending time with her husband and family, especially their grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister; Susan Taylor, and her sister-in-law; Theresa Shafran.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 3:00PM-7:00PM at Turner Funeral Home with Funeral Services following at 7:00PM, at Turner’s with Pastor John Davis and Pastor Phil Conklin, officiating.

Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery.
