BC3 Trustees Select Coval as College’s Interim President

Megan M. Coval, who in 30 months has assisted the Butler County Community College Education Foundation in raising at least $7.5 million and presides over government relations administrators from Pennsylvania’s 15 community colleges, was unanimously approved today by BC3 trustees as interim president of the institution. Trustees voted 15-0 in support of a motion from the board’s personnel committee to appoint Coval to the position effective May 16. Dr. Nick Neupauer announced Jan. 9 his plan to retire as BC3’s chief executive officer. Trustees said Jan. 17 they would provide an update March 20 about replacing Neupauer, at 17 years…

Minnie Ferrante, 95

On March 19, 1945 Minnie’s husband Sam was a survivor of the attack on the USS Franklin during World War II that killed over 700 men. On that day Sam always took off work as it was his “Lucky Day”. His lucky day still exists as his beloved wife Minnie went to join him for eternity as she passed away on his Lucky Day at Northview Estates. Ellwood City Schools Plan To Dismiss Early For Solar Eclipse

The Ellwood City Area School District is planning an early dismissal on Monday, April 8, 2024 due to the solar eclipse that day. Lincoln Jr/Sr High School and Hartman Upper Intermediate will dismiss at 12:15 PM and Perry Lower Intermediate and North Side will dismiss at 1:15 PM. Ellwood City Police Department Recognized for Involvement in Drug Related Indictment

Ellwood City Borough Council applauded the Ellwood City Police Department for its involvement in a recent federal drug investigation during their Monday night meeting. United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced on March 14 (see original story here) that seventeen individuals from Lawrence County, Pennsylvania; Puerto Rico; and Youngstown, Ohio, were indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh for violating federal narcotics, firearms, and racketeering laws. The defendants, four of which were from Ellwood City, were charged in the indictments and allege that, between September 2022 and March 2024, the defendants conspired to distribute cocaine throughout Western Pennsylvania, specifically…

Mrs. Sharlene L. Veres, 83, formerly of Franklin Township, passed away on Monday, March 18th, 2024 at the Celebration Villa in Chippewa Township. Sharlene was born on September 18th, 1940 in Ellwood City to the late Edward M. and Louise E. (Venezie) Mitchell. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1958. She worked for United States Steel, Commercial Machine Works, and lastly at Emess Design Group/Alsy Lighting until her retirement in 2005. Mr. Edward L. Annarumo, 68, of Norwalk, Ohio passed away on Sunday, March 17th, 2024 at the Cleveland Metro Health Medical Center. Edward was born in Ellwood City on December 20th, 1955 to the late Anthony Annarumo and Eleanor (Greco) Lively. He had graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1974. Following high School, Ed enlisted with the United States Marine Corp. on July 15th, 1974 and honorably served until his discharge on November 16th, 1976 with the rank of Corporal. Riverside Swimming Wraps Up Its Appearance In PIAA State Championships

The Riverside Swimming team competed in the PIAA State Championships this past weekend at Bucknell University. “My assistant, David Peffer, and I are beyond proud of how our boys did this past weekend,” said head coach Alaina Marshall. “The bar at the competition level continues to be raised every year and our small team remains competitive amongst the best of them.” On Saturday, senior Joseph Roth broke his own 100-Yard Backstroke state record at finals with a time of 48.34, but was just out-touched at the finish by Luke Lamb of North Catholic.
