Ellwood City Schools Plan To Dismiss Early For Solar Eclipse

The Ellwood City Area School District is planning an early dismissal on Monday, April 8, 2024 due to the solar eclipse that day.

Lincoln Jr/Sr High School and Hartman Upper Intermediate will dismiss at 12:15 PM and Perry Lower Intermediate and North Side will dismiss at 1:15 PM. All district students will receive their lunch prior to dismissal on this day.

“We are planning the timing of this dismissal for several reasons, but most importantly is safety,” said Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley in a statement. “Our normal dismissal time is right in the middle of the timeframe of the eclipse and I would like our students to be home before it begins. I also wanted to make sure our students are fed prior to dismissal on that day.”

The eclipse will begin shortly after 2:00 PM and will end at 4:30 with the full eclipse occurring at 3:16 PM.

The district will distribute viewing glasses to all students prior to dismissal on April 8th so that they can safely view the eclipse with adult supervision.

The monthly board work session meeting scheduled for 7:00 PM on April 8, 2024 has been cancelled and the meeting on April 11, 2024 will become a combined meeting held in the board room of Lincoln Jr/Sr High School.

  1. Is this a serious article or an early April Fool’s joke? Please tell me it’s the latter. America is doomed.

  2. Are you kidding me, “Big Daddy”?

Why is America doomed because the school is taking opportunity of an educational experience that won’t happen for another seven years. (their whole school-time)
Why is America doomed because they are making sure the kids aren’t being let out at dark?
Why is America doomed because our kids are staying fed?

America seems to be doomed because it is educated and fed. Thank god people actually make decisions around here.
