On March 19, 1945 Minnie’s husband Sam was a survivor of the attack on the USS Franklin during World War II that killed over 700 men. On that day Sam always took off work as it was his “Lucky Day”. His lucky day still exists as his beloved wife Minnie went to join him for eternity as she passed away on his Lucky Day at Northview Estates.
Mrs. Ferrante was born in Midway, PA on October 27th, 1928 to the late Domenic Gobcio and Mary (DeMarco) Chiolo. She had graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1947. Minnie is a long time member of the Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church. Before becoming a homemaker she had worked at the Ellwood City Glass Plant. For 29 years Minnie had volunteered her time with the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary. Always having a smile on her face she will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
Minnie is survived by her daughter Mary Kay Morabito of Ellwood City, son Sammy Joe Ferrante of Franklin Twp., granddaughters Anna (Eric) Thompson, Jennie (Brad) Watt, and Shelby (Jeff) Gordon, great-grandchildren Devin and Luca Thompson, Otis, Alice, and Minnie Sue Watt, and Piper Gordon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Gennaro Chiolo, grandson Oliver Watt, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Ferrante, son-in-law Joseph Morabito, and sister Della Hupp.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm at Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church with Father Joe Freedy officiating. Interment will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
