R. Sue Brain, 84

R. Sue Brain, 84, of New Castle passed away at UPMC Jameson on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Born in Butler, PA on June 12, 1939, Sue was the daughter of the late William Deryll and Lois Pollock Dailey.  She retired from Rockwell where she was a tool purchasing and distributing agent. Sue is survived by her son, Jeff (Joanie) Wright of Portersville, a granddaughter; Monica (Sean) Kantola of Wayne Township, a great grandson; Micah Kantola, and two brothers; William Dailey of San Diego, California and Deryll Dailey of Portersville. Private interment will take place in South Side Cemetery, Butler, PA….


Roth Stuffs Stat Sheet, Wolverines Beat Beaver Falls

Joseph Roth stuffed the stat sheet as the Wolverines defeated Beaver Falls 66-41 Friday night at Lincoln High School. The senior big man finished with 24 points, 18 rebounds, and 11 assists. Roth scored 18 first half points as Ellwood City led by three points at halftime. Colton Crizer finished with 17 points (three 3 pointers) including a last second 3-pointer to beat the 3rd quarter buzzer that gave Ellwood City a 42-35 advantage. EC Wolves Club Den Provides Donations

The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II met on Wednesday January 10, 2024 at the Connequenessing Country Club. At the meeting they presented a donation of $500 to the Ellwood City Meals on Wheels Program. Director Terry Crespo thanked the Wolves Club for their continued support of the important community program where thirty citizens receive meals Monday through Friday. Due to donations like theirs the program has not had to raise the costs to the participants. Wolves Club members serve as drivers and meal preparers. There is a need for drivers to deliver the meals. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

ASSAULT/BURGLARY: A 17-year-old teenager from Wampum is charged with Assault With a Weapon after a Burglary attempt on January 6th. According to a police report, and at approximately 1:51 a.m., police say he broke into a residence on McKim Way, Franklin Township, Beaver County and assaulted two people inside. PA State Police say a 41-year-old man who owned the home noticed a burglar walking down the stairs of his house, later identified as the 17-year-old boy. ECASD Board of Directors Nominate Candidate to the MIU IV Board; Ewing Park Residents Speak Against Field Usage

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors unanimously nominated new Director Kevin Boariu to the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV (MIU IV) Board. Director Jean Biehls made the motion to nominate Boariu. The MIU IV Board will now have to accept the ECASD Board’s nomination. Historical Society Starts New Year With Awards

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society had its first public meeting of 2024 at the History Center, 310 5th Street, on Monday evening, January 8, 2024. The meeting started with the Pledge of Allegiance led by 101 year old World War 2 veteran, Guy Prestia. Paul A. Stefura, 62, of Ellport, passed away peacefully on January 5th, 2024, at his home. Paul was born on January 8th, 1961 in Ellwood City to Paul and Joyce (Agostinelli) Stefura. He graduated from Big Beaver High School with the class of 1979 and from Technician Trade School in 1982. After school, Paul enlisted with the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1986, after serving 4 years with the engineers as a plumber, with the rank of SP4.
