The Ellwood City girls tennis team defeated Beaver Falls 5-0 on Monday and with the victory have qualified for the WPIAL playoffs.
The Lady Wolverines have now strung together five consecutive victories to rebound from an 0-3 start to its regular season.
On Monday, Kailyn Hamilton (6-2, 6-0), Tessa Folino (6-0,6-0) and Mia Meredith (6-1, 6-1) all earned straight set victories in singles play while the pairings of Olivia Parson & Meredith McCommons (6-0, 6-0) and Sophia Agnew & Kiley LeViere (7-5, 7-3) earned doubles victories for Ellwood City.
The victory Monday punctuated a string of victories dating back to a road victory over Central Valley September 5th. The Lady Wolverines then moved on to defeating Riverside (4-1), Hopewell (4-1), and Neshannock (4-1) before wiping out Beaver Falls on Monday.
For Ellwood City, the section doubles take place Wednesday, September 25th at 8:00 a.m. The Girls tennis team (5-3 Overall, 4-3 WPIAL Class 2A-4) will then turn its focus to the WPIAL team playoffs riding a five match win streak.
The WPIAL 2A & 3A Girls’ Tennis Team Championships First Round-Semifinals will take place October 7-15 at various sites TBD. Section foes Beaver and Blackhawk also qualified for the Class 2A playoffs and will each enter with unbeaten section marks.
