Groundbreaking Set For New Stonecrest Business Park

Stonecrest Golf Course opened in 1962

Groundbreaking for the Stonecrest Business Park will take place on Thursday, March 28th at 8:30 a.m. at 2298 Route 18 in New Beaver Borough.

The 213-acre former site of Stonecrest Golf Course will be the first privately developed park built in Lawrence County in more than 40 years. The proposed business park will house light manufacturing businesses, warehouse space and pad-ready sites with public utilities.

The property, which is less than 10 miles from Ellwood City, sits less than five miles away from interchanges with the Pennsylvania Turnpike and PA Route 376.

The project is expected to create approximately 1.5 million square feet of space and generate 750 to 1,000 new jobs.

During a January Wampum Borough Council meeting, John LaCarte, of LaCarte Enterprises, said the schedule for the sewer construction will begin on April 15 and he is estimating that a year from now the project will be completed.

They are still waiting on the SCADA from the borough to complete the plans and will need a letter confirming the approval of the plans/drawings.

In January, the project was announced of one of only 20 applicants moving forward in a Pennsylvania Strategic Investments to Enhance Sites Program.

“Stonecrest has the potential to produce hundreds of jobs with family sustaining wages right here in Lawrence County, and we look forward to working with John and the commonwealth to see this project to fruition,” Forward Lawrence CEO Ben Bush said in January.

The now former Stonecrest Golf Course opened in 1962 and housed an 18-hole, 6,277-yard course and driving range.

Sad but happy for the area. I played at Stonecrest for 50 years + and worked there on the grounds crew for 7 years. I guess, “That’s progress.”
