Playoff Bound Lady Wolverines Knock Off Beaver Falls 46-40

The playoff-bound Lady Wolverines knocked off Beaver Falls 46-40 Monday evening during its senior night game.

Ellwood City pulled away in the second half after trailing at halftime.

Kayla Jones scored a team-high 15 points, including 9-16 free throws. The junior connected on 7-10 free throws in the fourth quarter to help the Wolverines secure the crucial section victory.

Fellow junior Delaney Sturgeon scored 13 points and connected on three 3-pointers in the victory. Senior Claire Noble finished with seven points.

Ellwood City outscored the visiting Tigers 23-16 in the second half.

The Wolverines (14-7 Overall, 6-3 Section 3A-1) have now knocked off both Neshannock and Beaver Falls during the regular season. The Tigers entered Monday night’s game with one section loss, and with their loss gives the Lancers at least a share of the section title. Ellwood City knocked off Neshannock 67-60 on January 25th, handing the Lancers their lone section loss.

Ellwood City wraps up its regular season on the road Thursday at Laurel with a scheduled tip at 6:30 p.m.

A final victory in the regular season would help with Class-3A playoff seeding for the Wolverines as they would become only the sixth team in the 3A classification to have earned seven section victories.

RIVERSIDE 42 – LAUREL 27

The Riverside Lady Panthers picked up their first section victory of the season Monday night, defeating Laurel 42-27 on the road.

Gabriella Finch scored a game-high 17 points and added seven rebounds, six assists, and three blocks in her all around performance. Emma Stockton checked in with a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) for Riverside. DeLana Fox scored six points with eight rebounds and grabbed eight steals.

Riverside improves to (5-14 Overall, 1-8 Section 3A-1) and wraps up its regular season with two road contests, at Freedom Tuesday night in non-section play, and then
on the road against Mohawk on Thursday.
