Camp Allegheny Received State Grant For Improvement Project

HARRISBURG – The Salvation Army Camp Allegheny was among those receiving state grants announced by Sen. Elder Vogel, Jr. (R-47) today.

More than $730,000 in state grants have been awarded for seven community improvement projects in Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties.

“Creating or improving recreational opportunities helps further enrich our communities and provides places where our residents and travelers can enjoy outdoor activities,” said Vogel. “I’m glad to see these projects will benefit from this funding and know they will add to the revitalization of our area.”

The following projects are being funded with grants from the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program which is funded through Act 13 of 2012’s Marcellus Shale Fund:

Beaver County

  • Ambridge Borough received $125,000 for the PJ Caul Park project.
  • Borough of Monaca received $74,000 for the Central Valley Girls Youth softball field renovations at John Antoline Park.
  • Brighton Township received $75,000 for the Baycura land acquisition and $100,000 for Phase II of the Two-Mile Run Trails.
  • Midland Borough received $240,000 for the Midland swimming pool improvements.

Butler County

  • Jackson Township received $75,000 for the Evergreen Mill Road/Seneca Valley School Campus Bridge project.

Lawrence County

  • The Salvation Army received $41,386 for the Salvation Army Camp Allegheny.

  1. How can The Salvation Army, a faith based organization, receive monies from the state to enhance their Camp Allegheny? Is the state now giving financial support to all religious camps, schools and other groups that promote religious teaching?
