Susan L. “Sue” Westlund, 78

Mrs. Susan L. “Sue” Westlund, 78, of Ellwood City, passed away at 9:40 am at the UPMC Passavant in McCandless Twp., after a short, but hard battle with cancer.

Sue was born on March 13th, 1945 in New Castle, to the late Joseph and Lillian (Ferrante) Evans. She was a 1963 graduate of Lincoln High School and was truly looking forward to their upcoming 60th class reunion. Sue had numerous jobs over the years besides being a loving wife and mother. She worked at the Ellwood City Knitting Mill, The Park Pharmacy and Keller’s Department Store. She and her husband, James, had a youth bowling league and she also bowled in several leagues herself.

Sue was a proud member of the Ellwood City After Prom Committee and The Ladies Auxiliary of the Ellport Booster Club for over 30 years. For the last 7 years, she has helped put on the Riverside Lions Basket Luncheon, resulting in her receiving the Heart of The Lion Award. She truly loved going on cruises, especially to Alaska and enjoyed the many road trips she would take with her husband. A self taught quilter, she would make memory quilts for her grandchildren. Lastly, she was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, NASCAR and the Tour De France.

She is survived by her loving husband of almost 53 years, James Westlund, whom she married on September 4th, 1970, her daughter, Megan (Mike) Barnhart of Ellwood City, sons, Evan Westlund of Ellwood City, and Adam (Aimee) Westlund of Columbus, OH, grandchildren, Lee Barnhart, and Ryan and Romy Westlund, sisterand brother-inlaws, Emma Jane and William Mehard of Charleston, SC. .

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Thomas Drescher.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 26th, 2023 at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc, from 1:00 pm until the time of memorial service at 5:00 pm with Pastoral Assistant Kay Bellissimo officiating.

Sue’s family wishes to thank all the nurses and doctors who took such good care of her and very special thank you to Dr. Kiram Rajasenan for being her champion and fighter.

Memorial contributions in Sue’s name may be made out to The Ellwood City Area Public Library, Holy Redeemer Angel Fund, or the American Cancer Society.

    Susie and I spent many years dancing at Dorothea Vogt’s School of Dance. I am saddened to hear of her passing. My condolences to her family.
