Summer is here and that means road construction projects!
According to a spokeswoman for Columbia Gas, the gas company is currently working on a project which began earlier this year to replace natural gas pipelines in the Lawrence Avenue area.
“This is part of our commitment to modernize our distribution system to continue to provide safe and reliable natural gas services to our customers in the Ellwood City area,” says Lee Gierczynski, Communications Manager for Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania.
According to Gierczynski, Columbia Gas has been replacing more than 13,000 feet of underground pipe impacting approximately 150 customers along portions of Lawrence Avenue (Route 351), Center Avenue, Crescent Avenue, 13th Street, 14th Street, and 15th Street.
The work is taking place between 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with Saturday work possible.
For some customers, the project has included replacing their service lines and/or moving any indoor gas meters outside at no additional cost to them.
“Currently, we have about 1,500 feet of gas mainline and around 40 customer service lines left to replace,” advises Gierczynski.
Motorists can expect road closures and lane restrictions during working hours only.
A subcontractor has been paving Thursday and Friday along Lawrence Avenue, which created multiple work zones and slightly longer traffic delays according to Gierczynski.
The paving crew is scheduled to complete its work on Lawrence Avenue by end of day Friday, which should lessen impact on traffic in that area.
The overall project is scheduled for completion in late summer/early fall, weather permitting.
