Catherine Sabatino, 97

Mrs. Catherine Sabatino, 97, of Ellwood City passed away peacefully on November 28th, 2022 at her home.

Catherine was born on May 28th, 1925 in West Bridgewater, Pennsylvania to the late Frank and Catherine “Katy” (Pavlinich) Brozich. She graduated from Beaver High School with the class of 1943. She was a member of the Holy Redeemer Church, Divine Grace Parish. Catherine worked at the Babcock & Wilcox Steel Mill as a personnel department clerk, Townsend Company, where she made 98 cents an hour as secretary, Draft Board in Beaver, Victor Cohen’s Dust Proof Manufacturing, Christy’s Grocery Store, Value King on Wampum Avenue, Mario’s, and lastly, at Giant Eagle where she worked in the meat department for 37 years. Catherine was a worker, retiring at age 96.

Our mother was a pillar of strength, love and support for her family. She loved our father, Patsy, whom she has missed for 19 years. She rarely turned down an opportunity for an adventure. She loved to go, loved to laugh, dance, and joke. She was always engaged in the life around her, and as long as there was work to do she couldn’t sit still. All who knew her, knew that she loved to work. She regretted having to give up her job at Giant Eagle last October. Whether at home or on her job, our mom gave 101% of her energy and attention to detail to doing the job to her own high standards. She created amazing work of arts each year as she baked Christmas cookies. She spent hours creating thousands of the perfect, uniform, beautiful, tasty confections, then more hours packaging them up for family, friends and neighbors until she gave them all away. Most of all, our mother was a giver, who would always rather give than receive. She lived life her way, an “old school” way, denying herself any unnecessary attention or material possessions. Her joy came from seeing the people she loved happy and successful, hardworking and healthy, surrounded by love and support, with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Jonathan McQueen) Miller of Struthers, OH, and Cathy (John Churchin) Reid of Ellwood City, her grandchildren Kristian (Sumer) Miller, Justin (Kahla) Miller, James (Christine Shaffer) Reid, Nicole (Grayson Andrews) Reid, and Michael (Leah Franze) Reid, and great-grandchildren, Hailey and Brendan Miller, Zachery Penwell, McKayliegh and Samuel Reid, and Ryder Andrews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Patsy J. Sabatino whom she married on August 14th, 1948, and passed away on March 30th, 2003, her sisters, Barbara Onuska and Sophie Ristau, brothers, John, Joseph, Michael, and Francis Brozich, her son-in-law, Barry Miller, her sister-in-law, Mary (Sabatino) DiBiagio and her brother-in-law Lou DiBiagio.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 1st from 5-8pm at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, December 2nd, at 10:00 am at the Holy Redeemer Church, Divine Grace Parish with Father Mark Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery.
