Festival Entertainment: Part 3: Dorals to Take the Stage July 4

You know them. You’ve heard them. They are festival favorites.

They are the Dorals.

With Jim Lombardo on lead vocals and saxophone; Dave Audia on lead vocals and guitar, Jack Marshall on lead vocals and keyboard; Tee Sands on bass and background vocals, Steve Domeck on drums and background vocals; Rob Verone on lead guitar and vocals and sound engineer Patrick Benincase, the crowd will be rocked and rolled and will want to sing along on Monday, July 4 during the Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food, and Entertainment Festival.

The Dorals are celebrating 34 years of playing music this year, and band leader Jim Lombardo said the group loves playing the festival.

“We always like to perform our in our home base,” he said. “The Festival has been a favorite event that we list as a highlight over the 34 years.”

Most members of the band are from New Castle. They play a variety of music from the 50s to the 90s and Motown and Doo Wop.

Although the band has added new members over the years … three originals are still rocking: Lombardo, Audia, and Marshall.

“We are the originals,” Lombardo said.

Band members ages also vary.

“Steve the drummer is our youngest member,” Lombardo said. “He brings so much energy to his performances that we call him the Energizer Bunny.”

Lombardo said what makes the Dorals unique is that all the music they play is live.

We concentrate not only on music but our 5-part harmonies,” he said. “We entertain people of all ages from kids to senior citizens and we like to get the audience to sing along.”

If you are wondering how the Dorals got their name, Lombardo said it’s a short and simple story. He said 34 years ago the band was about to play their first gig and did not have a name.

“I was going through the checkout at Giant Eagle and saw the Dorals cigarette pack, and the rest is history,” Lombardo said.
