LeVerne M. Burns

LeVerne M. Burns formerly of Ross Township, passed away on Tuesday, June 7th 2022 at her residence.

LeVerne was born in Pittsburgh to the late Charles and Eleanor (Klein) Peaco. She graduated from the Mt. Alvernia High School with the class of 1945. During her time in Ross Township, LeVerne volunteered as Chairman of the American Cancer Society and was very active in the Women’s Democratic Club. She was a member of St. Teresa of Avila’s Church, in Perrysville, where she also spent a lot of time volunteering. Throughout the years LeVerne enjoyed many activities such as playing the accordion, roller skating, baking, square dancing, decorating, and attending her grandchildren’s baseball games. She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan, and made sure she watched daily Mass everyday. Once moving to Ellwood City, she became a member of Holy Redeemer Church and found a new passion in sewing.

She is survived by her daughters, Maureen (Thomas) Uhler, Colleen (Scott) Rodgers, Karen Burns-Abramson, Pamela (Bob) Duncan, Charlene (Kevin) Adams, and Sherri (Michael) Stewart, sons, Robert W. (Laura) Burns, William G. Burns, Kevin (Virginia) Burns, and Terrence (Laura) Burns, 25 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and her son-in-law, Michael Joyner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert F. Burns whom she married on June 11th, 1947 and passed away on April 16th, 1993, daughter, Kathleen Joyner, sons Michael R. and Thomas Burns, and daughter-in-law, Peggy Burns.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of blessing service at 11:00 am on Monday, June 13th, at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., with Father Mark Thomas officiating. Inurnment will follow at Grace Church Cemetery.

Donation in LeVerne’s name may be made out to St. Judes Children’s Hospital or to Sacred Heart Southern Missions
