Wilmington Hockey Shuts Out Carrick, Advances to PIHL Semifinals

The Wilmington hockey team shutout Carrick 2-0 in a PIHL D2 quarterfinal playoff game at Ice Castle Arena in Castle Shannon.

After a scoreless first period the Hounds got all the goals they would need in the second period with an unassisted goal by captain Drake Tomak (Ellwood) and a power play goal by Davis Phanco (Wilmington).

The big story of the night was goaltender Dom Serafino (Wilmington) as the netminder stopped all 33 shots he faced including 16 in a 3rd period onslaught by the Cougars.

The Greyhounds, who finished 11-5-1 on the regular season, will next play in its semifinal matchup against #1 seed Bishop Canevin on Thursday, March 17 at 6:30 at RMU Island Sports Center.

Both Bishop Canevin’s losses on the regular season were at the hands of the Greyhounds.  Bishop Canevin is led by Ty Serakowski who has a team-high 35 points in 18 games.

OF NOTE – Congratulations to the Hounds that were named to the PIHL D2 All-star game, Tomak, Cody Williams (Ellwood) and Noah Monstwil (Mohawk). The All-Star game will be played on April 3 at 12:00 PM at Alpha Ice Complex.  As is past years, Division-2 starts the day followed by the Class-A game at 2:00 p.m., Class-2A game at 4:00 p.m. and the Class-3A game at 6:00 p.m.
