Wilmington Hockey Extends Point Streak, Routs Burrell 8-1

The Wilmington hockey team defeated Burrell 8-1 at Hess Ice Rink on Tuesday extending their team point streak to eight straight game.

The Hounds scored the only goal in the first period when Davis Phanco (Wilmington) lit the lamp. The goal was assisted by Andrew Cartwright (Union) and Chance Miller (Wilmington).

Wilmington had a 3-1 advantage after two periods with two scores from Drake Tomak (Ellwood City). The first goal was assisted by Cody Williams (Ellwood City) and the second assist going to Gage Miller (Ellwood City).

The third period was all Greyhounds with five straight goals.

The first three born as a natural hat trick from Williams. Assists going to Cartwright on the first, Tomak and Cartwright on the second, and Tomak and Logan Popovich (Wilmington) for Williams’ third goal. The last two goals were scored by Cartwright capping off a 5 point game for him. He was assisted by C Miller and Justin Girman (New Castle) on the first and Tomak on the other which gave him a 5-point game as well.

The Hounds (9-5-0-1 overall) are currently in 2nd place with 19 points in the PIHL Varsity B North division. The team has not lost in regulation since before November with their lone loss coming in overtime to Neshannock two weeks ago. The team earned a point for the overtime loss.

Wilmington will next be in action January 31 and look for redemption at Avonworth (8-3-0 overall) when they will put their streak of points on the line and look to avenge a 4-0 loss earlier in the season at the hands of Avonworth.
