Ellwood City Wolves Club Recognizes Local Man For Volunteer Work

The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II recognized a local man for his volunteer work in our community for the past 50 years. The Club recognizes local citizens who perform volunteer work in the community and epitomize the Clubs moto: “Pro Bono Publico”-For the Good of the Public.

Sam Pawlowski of Ellwood City was recognized by presentation of a certificate and a Gift Card to Giant Eagle at their regular meeting at the Connequenessing Country Club Wednesday night.

Sam has been involved in the set up and take down of Christmas in the Park for 30 years. This entails starting in October: trimming trees, bringing out the displays, decorating the shelters, the Bocci Court and the stage. He assists the Borough Electric Department with the drops for the displays. This alone takes over 280 hours. The ripple effect of celebrating Christmas in the Park is from the donations the people give to ride through the park to see the displays. The money raised is used to purchase new displays, lights and maintain the existing equipment. Also funds are donated to Club Hope and the PTO at North Side Primary Elementary School.

For the past 15 years, Sam has also taken care of the Legion Park flowers located at 4th St and Spring Ave. If that isn’t enough, he also waters the community flower pots in front of the Borough’s Veterans’ Memorial and the Plaza across the street where concerts and other events are held in the summer.

Sam has been involved with the Ellwood City Arts and Crafts Festival over the years as a Committee member. He has handed out flyers for the annual Car Cruise and assisted at the Ellwood City Public Library Golf Ball Roll fundraiser.

Sam also has been a donor and volunteer at the American Red Cross Blood Drives-donating over 30 gallons.

Sam has received several awards: he was recognized by the Borough of Ellwood City Council in 2021, the Beaver County Times Unsung Hero Award in 2016 and the Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce Chamber Citizen Award in 2011.

Sam imparts his work ethic to his parents. Also he has this advice: “If you see something that needs done: instead of talking about, just do something about it.”
