Roth Nets 1,000th Career Point, Wolverines Clinch First-Ever Section Championship

Two records were set Tuesday night at Mohawk when the Ellwood City Wolverines defeated the host Warriors 57-31.

First, in the second quarter, Alexander Roth connected on the first of his two free throw attempts to earn his 1,000th career point. The senior scored 19 of his team-high 20 points (two 3-pointers, four rebounds) in the first half to help the Wolverines gain a 36-14 halftime advantage.

Second, and at the final buzzer, the Wolverines (18-2 Overall, 8-0 Section 1-3A) clinched an outright section championship, the first section championship in school history.

Roth (1,007 career points) joins teammate Steve Antuono in the 1,000 career point club.

Antuono, who also hit the milestone from the free throw line earlier in the season, finished with four 3-pointers on Tuesday en route to his 14 points. The Wolverines were also named Trib-HSSN Boys Basketball Team of the Week on Monday.
