The Wilmington Co-op Hockey team upset a first place Carrick hockey team by a score of 9-8 Monday behind an impressive five goal game by Ellwood City senior Drake Tomak.
The visiting Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-1 first period and 9-4 advantage after two periods before holding off Carrick for the victory.
Tomak lit the lamp twice in the first period with assists from Logan Popovich (Wilmington) and Davis Phanco (Wilmington). Sean Carmichael (New Castle) and Andrew Cartwright (Union) also scored in the first period.
The Hounds scored five more goals in the second period, including three more goals by Tomak. Popovich, Cody Williams (Ellwood), and Carmichael earned assists.
Carrick scored four unanswered goals in a third period rally, but it wasn’t enough as the Hounds hung on for the one goal victory.
Bo Leslie earned the win in net stopping 34 of 42 shots. Tomak finished the night with seven points (5 goals, 2 assists).
Wilmington was outshot 42-24 by Carrick (8-2 Overall, B South Division)
The Hounds now have a season record of 7-5 and will hope to continue their five-game win streak on Monday, January 3rd at Hess Ice Rink where they will take on rival Neshannock.
