Dorothy Nada Spoa, 86

Mrs. Dorothy Nada Spoa, 86, of North Sewickley Twp. passed away on Saturday, December 11th, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Hospice, Heritage Valley.

Dorothy Nada Spoa was born in Gary, Indiana on August 16, 1935. She moved at a young age to Fort Wayne, lN. She attended a Luthern Church School through 7th grade then attended South Side High School, graduating with Honors. She spent many summers in Ellwood City working at the European Bakery owned by her uncle in the west End. Upon graduation from high school, Dorothy was employed by Lincoln Life Insurance Company in Fort Wayne. She married Christy Spoa on April 28, t957. ln November of that same year, she joined her husband in France where he was stationed. Upon completion of active duty, they returned to the States and moved to Ellwood City where she began a new chapter in her life’

She became active in the Hartman Elementary PTA and served on various committees at the First Baptist Church. She was an avid supporter of Riverside High School, the school choir and was a member of the Ellwood City Hospital Auxillary. She also served on the Women’s National Grocers’ Association Board of Directors.

She enjoyed travelling to Food lndustry Events and enjoyed long conversations with friends. Those who knew Nada can certainly remember her standing in the family store engaged in deep conversations. She loved to talk and to listen.

She appreciated Ellwood City and said it was the perfect place to raise a family. She always said she was blessed many times over. First and foremost that she was born in America which provided so many opportunities. Where else could a child of First Generation immigrants be able to see the places and meet the people she did over her lifetime? All who knew her will miss her, but on the other side, a loving group of relatives and friends have welcomed her.

A woman of deep faith, she loved the Lord and her family. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Christy Spoa, her four children, Catherine (Mark) Nystrom, Debra Spoa, Christy Spoa, Jr. , David Spoa, her two grandchildren, Jason (Kathleen) Nystrom, Samantha Nystrom and a beloved great granddaughter Charlotte Nystrom.

The Spoa family would like to thank the staff at Trinity Oaks for her excellent care, Dr. Neil and staff, the Butler Geriatric Unit and the Good Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley in Beaver. ln lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Providence Baptist Church in North Sewickley Twp. or the Good Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley in Beaver, PA.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 pm until the time of the service at 5:00 pm at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. with Pastor Peggy Suhr-Barkley officiating. Interment will be at the Locust Grove Cemetery.

  1. As a little girl I remember Dorothy at my church First Baptist in Ellwood. She was the sweetest lady the love of the Lord showed through her. Sorry to see of her passing. We have very good memories of her. This is Toni Cummings daughter Lauren.
