POLICE: Weekly Blotter

MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT:
According to a report, police were dispatched to a one vehicle accident on Plain Grove Road, near Harlansburg Road, in Lawrence County on Sunday, September 12 at approximately 5:45 p.m. where, upon arrival, it was found after interviewing witnesses, the operator of 2010 Harley-Davidson had fallen over on his motorcycle with it resting on his leg causing a suspected serious leg injury. The operator, David Difrischia, 58, of Ellwood City, was transported to the Grove City Hospital where signs of impairment were observed. Defrischia refused to answer questions and refused to submit a blood draw. The motorcycle was towed and the scene was cleared.

CRIMINAL ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE:
Pennsylvania State Police report that Cassie Lutz, 26, of New Castle, and Michael Caccia, 55, of New Castle are in custody after a criminal attempted homicide incident in Shenango Township early Monday, September 27. According to the report, at approximately 1:05 a.m., Shenango Township Police responded to an address on Pennsylvania Avenue in Shenango Township, Lawrence County to assist EMS for a medical call. Upon arrival, officers discovered the two victims, both 38-year-old males, had been assaulted with blunt objects and edged weapons. One victim was flown to a nearby hospital and is listed in critical condition. The second victim sought treatment at another nearby hospital and is currently in stable condition. Lutz and Caccia were located and placed into custody as of Tuesday, September 28th at 4:15 p.m. and criminal charges were filed against both parties.

DUI:
James Shinton, 40, of Ellwood City, is charged with DUI and Careless Driving after an accident on August 15, 2021. According to a police report, and at approximately 6:48 a.m., police were dispatched to an accident at the intersection of Eight Street and Crescent Avenue in Ellwood City where it was believed the driver was intoxicated and trying to leave the scene of the accident. When police began to speak to Shinton, he was barefoot and showed officers his foot which he advised he broke several days prior, but Shinton was unsure why he was barefoot. Shinton later failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital for a blood draw.

DUI:
Dominick Figurelli, 23, of New Castle, is charged with DUI and Careless Driving after an incident on September 18, 2021. According to a police report, and at approximately 3:42 a.m., police were dispatched to a one vehicle accident on Perry Highway in Slippery Rock Township. Upon arrival, police found Figurelli outside the vehicle, standing by the roadway. Figurelli failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody due to the suspicion of DUI and was transported to a nearby hospital for a blood draw.
