The Ellwood City boys golf team is off to a fast start this year, improving their season record to an impressive 4-0 after its 213-219 victory on the road Tuesday afternoon over cross town rival Riverside.
Senior Milo Sesti continued his torrid pace, posting an 3-under round of 33 on Tuesday. Sesti had also fired two sub-40 rounds last week to power the Wolverines to victories over Freedom and Mohawk.
According to head coach Sam Barry, Sesti is someone to watch.
“Milo is one of the top 5 golfers in the section this season and he looks to build on his WPIAL record,” says Barry. “I anticipate he will make a strong run at WPIAL individuals this fall and hopefully make it to the state championships.”
Other early season contributors for the Wolverines include Zac Polojac and Mitchell Covert who each fired rounds of 45 Tuesday. Tyler Baker, who finished a pair of 43’s last week, join a talented group of Ellwood City golfers this season.
Barry, now in his 19th season, sees a wealth of talent on the Wolverines roster.
“Our returning seniors all are expected to contribute this year and with the large crop of junior high golfers out this season we will begin building the foundation for a great team over the next fives years,” says Barry.

“We have the potential to be very competitive in the section once again this year,” adds Barry. “With the addition of Maddie McCommons we are a stronger team and could if everything lines up make a run at another section title.”
Ellwood City has collected section titles two out of the last three seasons and earned a WPIAL Team Championship Finalist award last year, finishing 4th overall.
Logan Greer fired a team-low round of 39 in defeat for Riverside on Tuesday.
The Wolverines (4-0) next host Shenango at home on Thursday at 3:15 p.m. at Del-Mar Golf Course.
