HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) awarded a $25,000 grant to the New Brighton Historical Society in Beaver County, announced Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence).
“The society provides a valuable service to our residents and the state grant will go toward preserving the history and heritage of Beaver County, which dates back more than 50 years,” said Bernstine. “It is very satisfying to know that we are giving a significant piece of local history a new, fresh look. I was pleased to advocate for this important funding.”
The New Brighton Historical Society has determined that the preparation and implementation of a preservation plan at the Irish-Townsend House will further the organization’s mission to discover, collect, promote, interpret and disseminate knowledge of New Brighton. The plan will provide comprehensive guidance for the short- and long-term, restoration, rehabilitation, and maintenance management of the building, preserving and protecting the unique assets associated with its cultural and social legacy.
Funding under the program is available to nonprofit organizations and local governments for capital improvements on historic resources listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
“Preserving the history of a place through its significant historic resources gives a community its unique character. Historic preservation provides a link to the roots of the community and its people,” said Bernstine.
