New Playground & Features Coming To Lawrence Avenue & 7th Street

A new construction project at the 7L Playground is in full swing!

Borough of Ellwood City Public Works Department crews are currently completing site prep work right now on the southeast corner of the intersection of 7th Street and Lawrence Avenue (7L) in advance of the installation of new equipment.

“We do not have a timeline as much of the work is weather permitting and we are not certain we are done with the snow just yet,” said Public Works Secretary Rhiannon Schnell.

The former site grounds at City Centre Mini Park was leveled and cleared in February.

According to Schnell, the equipment is ordered and has started to be delivered. The structure, called Mount Olympus, will feature climbers, slides and other fun-filled activities.

“We have spent a lot of time planning and finding the perfect pieces of equipment to make the new playground a fun and safe space. The new playground promises to be a great place for the big hearts and tiny hands of our community to gather and play.”

Buddy benches are part of the design to encourage kids to interact with each other and play together.

“We are so excited for this project to get underway and provide the kids of our neighborhoods with a safe and fun place to play,” concluded Schnell.

The Borough asks for everyone to stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses.

So Ellwood City thought it was a good idea to remove/tear up one of the few tiny green spaces with trees and shade in the entire town that everyone can enjoy, to install a playground for kids because kids don’t have enough activity options these days. Another decision that lacks all common sense.
