Christ Presbyterian Hosting Third Thursday Community Meal

Christ Presbyterian Church will be hosting its Third Thursday Community Meal tonight at 4 p.m. and will serve the community until the food runs out.

The church welcomes anyone who feels like they need a home-cooked meal. There is no requirement or proof of need.

The church has been hosting this monthly meal since the first one in September.

According to Michelle Sutton, deacon at the church, the community gathering has been a success serving on average 120 people per month. She said although the meals have to be distributed as take out only in the church’s parking lot, because of Covid, the congregation hopes to bring the meals and the ministry inside when possible.

“The church has remodeled kitchen specially to minster to the Ellwood City community to provide meals,” Sutton said.

In addition to Christ Presbyterian, other churches and organizations have joined in the efforts.

“In the month of October, the Salvation Army donated 75 food boxes (large boxes full of food items) for us to pass out at our community meal,” Sutton said. “We distributed them to families who picked up dinner.”

Sutton added that Trinity Lutheran donated desserts for one of the events and Bell Memorial donated side dishes.

The meals vary every month. Tonight’s cuisine includes ham & scalloped potatoes, vegetable, bread, and dessert.

Those wishing to participate can pick up in the parking lot of the church at 325 Spring Avenue.
