Chamber Hosting Virtual Ugly Sweater 5K Fun Run

If you’ve always dreamed of doing a 5K but felt intimidated, this is your time.

The Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce is holding its first-ever Ugly Sweater 5K Fun Run virtually.

Participants can run, walk, swim, treadmill, or bike from the location of their choice. It’s freedom and fun at your own pace. And to top off the fun, all participants will receive a long-sleeve tech shirt, finisher medal and swag bag.

Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce Director Dale Thompson said the Chamber is excited to be able to have this fun event virtually and safely. According to Thompson, the Chamber has been forced to cancel all of their fundraising events this year because of Covid-19. This event was an outside the box way to celebrate the season while helping the Chamber and the community.

“This is going to be fun,” Thompson said. “I plan to do it with my family … my grandkids.”

Thompson said participants can really get festive and do their 5K activities while wearing ugly sweaters.

He said although this year’s event must be held virtually, the Chamber will consider making the event an annual in-person event in the future.
