Mayor Anthony J. Court has declared Veteran’s Day 2020 for Ellwood City.

According to a statement from the mayor’s office and in observance of Veteran’s Day, Mayor Anthony J. Court has declared Veteran’s Day, in Ellwood City, PA, Wednesday, November 11, 2020.

Faithful men and women who served and are still serving – put aside their own dreams and ambitions to secure the many freedoms we are so blessed to have in America today.

“It’s an honor for me to declare Wednesday, November 11, 2020 as “Veteran’s Day” here in Ellwood City, PA,” said Mayor Court. “We as a community recognize all of our Veterans. We shall never forget the sacrifices these individuals put forth.”

‘”I’m proud of all our Veterans – some who have made the ultimate sacrifice. God Bless all our Veterans,” concluded Mayor Court.

Veterans Day was initially started in 1938 to honor World War I veterans because on November 11, 1918, Germany signed an armistice agreement with the Allies- effectively ending World War I.

Formally known as Armistice Day, the name changed to Veterans Day in 1954, after World War II and the Korean War, due to veteran organizations urging Congress to change the name in order to give honor to all American veterans in all wars.
