EC Volleyball Defeats Shenango, Wins MAC Conference

The Ellwood City Girls Volleyball Team are conference champions!

The Lady Wolverines defeated Shenango 3-1 Thursday evening, extending their unbeaten season (12-0 overall) and clinching its MAC Conference Championship.

“It feels so great to be undefeated section champs, especially when we know we had to battle for some of those matches,” said head coach Jenna Ricciuti.

The girls went on the road to play a one-loss Wildcats team and had to recover early after dropping the first set 25-17.  The Wolverines took the next two sets, each by four points, and then collected the match victory with an more comfortable 25-13 score in the fourth set.

“This team has a special chemistry with one another and we’ve found a way to use each players’ strengths to find a way to win,” said Ricciuti. “The energy these girls create is what takes us to the next level.”

The Ellwood City Girls Volleyball Team will next travel to Mohawk (3-8 oveall) on Tuesday, October 20 to continue its quest on an unbeaten regular season.  Two matches remain on the schedule with Ellwood City on the road for both, playing Mohawk Tuesday and concluding their season at Beaver Falls next Thursday. The junior varsity team was defeated by host Shenango 2-1 to drop its record to 7-5 on the regular season.

“This is a season we don’t want to ever want to end so we’re working extremely hard to keep playing in the postseason,” concluded Ricciuti.
