Ellwood City United Fund – Last Fund Drive

The United Fund Board announced last week that it will no longer be holding its annual fund drive.

The annual fund drive provided funds for the service agencies that serve the Ellwood City community. The United Funds annual year runs from September 1 2019 to August 31, 2020. The United Fund will accept any and all donations up to August 31, 2020 and distribute them to the agencies. After August 31 we will return our 501c(3) and our Bureau of Charitable Certificate into the proper authorities.

We are forced to close our doors due to the fact that we are unable to get volunteers to help and to hold our annual campaign. The United Fund Board is composed of all volunteers and meet at churches, chamber of Commerce, History Center, and other offices of friends. Any social group, family group, club, or activities group are welcome to inquire about sponsorship. We will help anyone or group through a transitional period. The United Fund meets usually six times a year but meets extra time during the fundraising period( October, November, December). Please contact any board member or call the Chamber of Commerce and ask for a Board representative from the United Fund… donations can be sent to The United Fund, Post Office Box 174, Ellwood City, PA 16117.

The service agencies supported by the Ellwood City United Fund that will no longer receive funds:

  • The Ellwood City Public Library, Veronica Pacella
  • The City Rescue Mission, Kevin Green
  • People in Need, Sharon Hodge
  • LARK Enterprises, Deb Leddon
  • Human Services, Dennis Nebel
  • Ellwood Family Services, Ricki Coccia
  • Ellwood Education Foundation, Karen Williams
  • The Boy Scouts, Doug Smith
  • The Girl Scouts, Janet Kelly

The United Fund has raised in the last 40 years over two million dollars that went to help and aide the people of Ellwood City. It is with great regret that the United Fund board can no longer be an active organization in Ellwood City.

  1. Maybe the United Way should be more visible in the community. The only time anyone hears of the United way is once a year. Perhaps changing board members is a better solution? New people new ideas! I’m not even sure all of the listed members even live in Ellwood. Why not try saving it before you disband it?
