The Lawrence County Earth Day Committee announced the cancellation of the annual Earth Day festivities. The event will be replaced with a virtual art contest.
In the statement received this week, the committee stated, “We are committed to keeping our visitors safe and healthy at Earth Day; therefore, the Lawrence County Earth Day Committee has decided to cancel the event scheduled for April 18th in Ewing Park.”
In lieu of holding the event, a virtual art contest for all ages will be held to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day.
Be creative with your art supplies by using only what you have at home. Simply take a photo or scan your artwork and email to ecce1892@gmail.com with a title and artist name.
Your artwork will be displayed on the “Lawrence County Earth Day” Facebook page and the photo with the most likes by April 22, 2020 at noon will win a gift certificate.
Questions can be emailed to Jillian Court at ecce1892@gmail.com.
The Lawrence County Earth Day celebration has been held annually in Ewing Park, Ellwood City as a showcase to learn about environmental issues and buy “green” products from vendors. In past years, hundreds of visitors have frequented the event that has featured a Trashion Show, Wild World of Animals and horse & trolley rides.
